Royals Acquire Ervin Santana

Sep 20, 2014 3:43 AM

The Angels have traded Ervin Santana to the Royals, according to a report.

Kansas City will likely exercise Santana's $13 million option and perhaps even look to extend him to ensure his future with the club.

The Angels will get minor league left-hander Brandon Sisk in the deal, Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports reports.

Dodgers Like Shields, May Shift Attention To Greinke

Jun 8, 2014 3:53 AM

It was reported earlier this week that the Dodgers were targeting James Shields as their top priority this offseason.

However, the Rays placed a wrench in those plans when they exercised their $10.25 million option on Shields for the 2013 season.

It remains to be seen if the Dodgers will try to work out a deal with the Rays or perhaps shift their attention to free agent Zack Greinke, who finished the 2012 season with the Angels.

Angels Still Working To Deal Haren, Santana

Jul 27, 2014 1:26 AM

The Angels are expected to make at least one trade this week.

They are aggressively trying to move Dan Haren and Ervin Santana before having to decide on their 2013 options, according to Major League sources.

"I think they trade both guys," one rival executive said.

Los Angeles will not exercise Santana's $13 million option, a source said, and there is every indication that they will decline Haren's $15.5 million option as well.

Source Says Ethier Trade 'Not Happening'

Sep 13, 2014 3:14 AM

The Dodgers are unlikely to trade Andre Ethier.

It was reported on Monday night that the team was open to trading Ethier, who signed a five-year, $85 million contract during the season.

"Not happening," said a source with knowledge of the team's thinking.

Ethier hit .284 with 20 home runs and 89 RBI this season.

Cherington's Second Year Will Be Defined By Ellsbury Decision

Sep 16, 2014 10:04 PM

Ben Cherington had a rough first year as general manager of the Red Sox.

The team lost more games than they have in decades. The hiring of Bobby Valentine was a disaster, as were the trades of Jed Lowrie, Josh Reddick and Kevin Youkilis.

However, Cherington cleaned his slate by trading the huge contracts of Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers in August. The move cleared $58 million in payroll for 2013 alone.

His second year with Boston will be defined by what he does with Jacoby Ellsbury.

Ellsbury will be a free agent in 2013 and is represented by Scott Boras. The Red Sox have a number of holes, which could lead Cherington to shop Ellsbury in a trade.

Angels Exploring Trades For Haren, Santana Before Options Due

Sep 30, 2014 5:37 PM

The Angels have explored trades involving Dan Haren and Ervin Santana before their options come due in a couple of days, according to executives from other teams.

The expectation is that Los Angeles won't exercise the options, which would make both pitchers free agents.

The Angels have until three days after the World Series to decide whether to pick up Haren's $15.5 million option and Santana's $13 million option.

If they buy out Haren, they'd owe him $3.5 million. They could buy out Santana for $1 million.

Dodgers Open To Trading Andre Ethier

Sep 30, 2014 8:17 AM

The Dodgers are open to the idea of trading Andre Ethier, according to sources.

Los Angeles signed Ethier to a five-year, $85 million contract extension during the 2012 season.

The Dodgers took on a ton of salary at midseason when they acquired Hanley Ramirez in a trade with the Marlins and Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford and Josh Beckett in a deal with the Red Sox.

Orioles Won't Sign Starter To Long-Term Deal

Sep 30, 2014 8:17 AM

The Orioles might be in need of a front-line starting pitcher, but they are unlikely to sign one to a long-term contract.

Dan Duquette has told reporters that he's more likely to acquire a pitcher the way he added Joe Saunders in 2012.

They don't want to go past three years on a contract as they have Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman coming on the horizon.

The Dodgers are looking for help in both the bullpen and starting rotation, leading to interest in Japanese pitchers Kyuji Fujikawa and Shohei Otani, according to sources.

Fujikawa has been considered the Japanese league's top closer in recent years.

Otani, 18, has a fastball that has been clocked in the 99-100 mph range.
